About Friends of Mozart

Each season Friends of Mozart, based in New York, presents concerts devoted to the range of Mozart’s music, instrumental, vocal, and chamber music repertoire.  Programs take place in New York City venues with superb acoustics that provide audiences an intimate sense of music-making by today’s established performers as well as new generations of young artists.  Performances are given on both period and contemporary instruments, expanding the dimension of the repertoire’s expressive scope and possibilities.

Friends of Mozart is a non-profit, private organization supported by membership from greater metropolitan New York and by individuals from throughout the United States and abroad. The concerts are offered free to the public.  In addition to presenting concerts of Mozart’s music and related repertoire from the 18th and early 19th-century, the organization publishes newsletters for its members on Mozart, his era and creative world, and enduring influence.

Friends of Mozart was established in 1974 and for more than 40 years has been a vital part of New York City’s cultural life.  Formed by a group of individuals in whose lives music, and Mozart’s music in particular, played a fulfilling role, the fledgling group was aided by strong encouragement from the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, Austria and the Austrian Cultural Forum New York (formerly the Austrian Cultural Institute); and the support of performing artists, who donated their services, establishing a series of free concerts for its members that were also open to the public. Since that time, Friends of Mozart has continued to produce programs that explore facets of Mozart’s life and remarkable achievements.

Friends of Mozart is sustained through annual contributions at various membership levels. Your financial support, large or modest, helps pay artists' fees, expand programs, reach new audiences, and meet operating expenses. Contributions are fully tax deductible.
