Mozart 225 represents an unprecedented collection of recordings of Mozart’s music. The box set of 200 CDs encompasses every known work by the composer, as well as five hours of previously unrecorded music, including a version of the well-known Sonata in A major, K. 331, with the Rondo “alla turca,” based on the recently discovered autograph manuscript score. The Mozart 225 edition features performances by more than 60 orchestras and period instrument ensembles and hundreds of musicians that are drawn from the sound archives of Decca and Deutsche Gramophone and 18 other labels. There are also recordings made on Mozart’s extant instruments. The collection includes a new biography of the composer by the scholar Cliff Eisen and a detailed book of commentary on Mozart repertoire—opera, sacred, orchestral, and instrumental music. A libretto app provides sung texts in the original language with parallel translation in English, French, or German. Mozart 225, the New Complete Edition, is a collaboration between the Universal Music Group and the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation. It is available for purchase beginning October 28th, 2016. www.mozart225.com.
